Drama game

Short Description
These are role-plays, in which a certain scenario is produced in the form of a monologue, dialogue, pantomime. It is possible to play dramas on a specific text or on a scenario designed by students. The goal is to experience a particular problem or situation where emotional involvement raises real issues. After the play of dramatization, comment is made and a lesson related to reality is summed up. Drama games is a participatory oriented method aimed at provoking an increased interest in a specific topic (in this case the Millennium Development Goals MDGs) and the European citizenship values with artistic means based on cultural diversity.

Step 1: Participants bring to the table their knowledge and interests related to specific topic/theme, group discussion for selection of a theme to be interpreted with artistic means.

Step 2: Design and development of a draft art concept by the group with the support of professionals.

Step 3: Role plays with certain scenario/script is developed in detail by the youth themselves based on their choice of topic.

Step 4: Rehearsals – participants experience real life situations (education, people with disabilities, tolerance, discrimination, environmental issues) with emotional involvement and application of various expressive techniques to raise consideration about the specific issue (supported by professionals).

Step 5: Design and production of décor/ costumes/puppets; selection of music and title of the art product.

Step 6: Premiere of 3 performances–pantomime, forum theatre and puppet theatre.

Step 7: Discussions following the performances with questions, comments and opinion of the audience.

Step 8: Draw on feedback and suggestions for new/useful insights (group discussion).

Pedagogical Information

Applied the universal language of "messages" and "sound expression" instead of speech or text, thus being barrier free (suitable for international use).

European Dimension

This method could be used in the european contect, expression without words could be helpful if the participants don't speak the same language.

Art Changes Lives

“Purification” pantomime and dance performance. The pantomime and dance performance “Purification” of young Bulgarian actors with impaired hearing from “MIM ART” theater at “Tishina” Association. The actors designed and developed the script themselves with the main topic – environmental sustainability and how each and every one of us could do something to contribute to its preservation. They sent their universal message for care, actions and responsibility of people for preservation of the environment through the means of pantomime, synchronized singing and dance facilitated by sign language interpretation.
