Methods – BBE https://bbe-toolbox.eu Building Bridges for Europe Fri, 13 Dec 2019 09:58:42 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Workshop on European Identity and Awareness https://bbe-toolbox.eu/method/workshop-on-european-identity-and-awareness/ Tue, 17 Sep 2019 11:34:57 +0000 https://bbe-toolbox.eu/?post_type=method&p=2555 The workshop concept can be used to clarify the following question: Which projects, activities and methods in adult education can be used in order to help fostering and/or developing European awareness or European identity. We understand European awareness and identity as a social construct, which is produced societally but also individually. We assume that European awareness is open to different identities, in which different cultural identification patterns or immaterial cultural heritage play a central role, but also a value orientation for a peaceful, democratic and solidary Europe is given.

Methods that help developing key competences such as critical thinking or self-reflection will be analyzed.

Within the framework of the workshop, the participants first have the opportunity to reflect on their own European identity or European awareness. The following key questions will be dealt with in small groups:

– How can European awareness be developed through activities?  What is important?

– Which methods can help?

– Do you know of any projects that contribute to European identity? What is their core idea?

These results will be reflected in a final round.

The term European consciousness or European identities will be operationalized in four aspects: (1) fundamental values, (2) key competences, (3) identification patterns and symbols of cultural heritage and (4) emotions and attributions of meaning:

(1) Fundamental Values

mindfulness, agility, altruism, recognition, enthusiasm, discipline, empathy, efficiency, effectiveness, diligence, flexibility, freedom, justice, money, humor, idealism, integration, sustainability, charity, respect, democracy, self-responsibility, solidarity, tolerance, dignity, Prosperity, education

Gender Switch https://bbe-toolbox.eu/method/gender-switch/ Sat, 20 Jul 2019 10:09:00 +0000 https://bbe-toolbox.eu/?post_type=method&p=2590 Pupils of the Anna-Essinger-Gymnasium in Ulm reflected on gender roles and stereotypes (in private and professional lives) in the context of art lessons.

The results were presented in a photo exhibition at the University of Ulm as part of the Spring Academy. The pupils led the participants of the Spring Academy through the exhibition and explained their photos. The pupils were able to talk about the professional and role models of men and women with the participants of the Spring Academy, who were all about the same age as their grandparents. In this way, young and old were able to learn more about the perspectives of other generations.

This method is based on an artproject of Cindy Sherman.

Lecture https://bbe-toolbox.eu/method/lecture/ Mon, 24 Jun 2019 10:21:35 +0000 https://bbe-toolbox.eu/?post_type=method&p=1692 It is an event in which arguments are presented on specific topics that are the subject of in-depth study. It can be a meeting of presentation or deepening on a subject of scientific or humanistic character or of various types. It is aimed at specific people, passionate about wanting to carry out a project together. It is a meeting that lasts a day or so, not a periodical one; it has mostly informative and formative purposes and it is not a periodical event at all. It is usually organised to discuss topics of common interest and to exchange knowledge.

It is important because it is an opportunity for discussion, decision making and reporting. It is not, therefore, an end in itself communication, but it is born from the desire to communicate something interesting that is worth reasoning about. During a conference, in fact, the debate between rapporteurs and with the public is often appreciated.
