Shared classes with golden topic

Short Description
This training process was based on activities that grow out of one common centre of interest of adult learners (called “golden topic”). The golden topic was “Old cooking recipes”. Around this topic were set three main branches of activities: ICT, literacy and English courses. In this training was also included development of another two basic skills: literacy, with reading and creative writing courses and Basic English communication skills. The methodological approach was based on four pillars: motivation, learning through acting, self-confidence and active participation of the adults all along learning process.

Training process was based on activities that grow out of one common centre of interest of adult learners (called “golden topic”). The golden topic was “Old cooking recipes”. Around this topic were set three main branches of activities: ICT, literacy and English courses. In this training was also included development of another two basic skills: literacy, with reading and creative writing courses and Basic English communication skills. The golden topic has stimulated the participation, motivated the learners and made them the principal actors of the learning process. Partners have created the shared classes that put all the above mentioned together and produced synergic effect of it. English classes devoted an hour of teaching dedicated to the translation of recipes, computing exchanged recipes on Facebook, art groups created a project logo, journalists placed recipes in a historical ethnological story, and attendees at the cooking workshop. The group “It is time for cooking” usually met once a month and more actively in the project tasks. The project utilized a simple but effective methodology based on thematically based shared classes to help adults and older learners to make their own journey through the educational process easier.

Pedagogical Information

The thematically based shared classes consisted of courses that affected ones participation in the contemporary society the most: computer literacy, writing and reading, and foreign languages.  The methodological approach was based on four pillars: motivation, learning through acting, self-confidence and active participation of the adults all along the learning process. The golden topic has stimulated the participation, motivated the learners and made them the principal actors of the learning process. The project utilized a simple but effective methodology based on thematically based shared classes to help adults and older learners to make their own journey through the educational process easier.

European Dimension

Improving basic skills (basic computer skills, reading and writing, and foreign languages) is essential for an active European citizen of nowadays: more and more things take place on the Internet and the basic computer using is a must for everybody.  In order to promote the active European citizenship, the thematically based shared classes consisted of courses that affected ones participation in the contemporary society the most: computer literacy, writing and reading, and foreign languages.

The project has used a simple but effective methodology of thematically based shared classes in order to help adult and senior learners to ease their way through the educational process. The methodological approach is based on four pillars: motivation, learning through acting, self-confidence and active participation of the adults all along the learning process.
Many of the products of the project like project logo, recipes collection, stories, calendar, blog, pictures, videos, etc. were created by the adult learners during the actual thematically based shared classes and shared during the project meetings.
