Focus groups on the value of European films about old age and active ageing
Focus groups are a form of qualitative research. It is also a popular method in the field of social sciences. During a focus group, a group of individuals—usually 6-12 people—is brought together in a room to engage in a guided discussion of a topic. Members of focus groups are experts from different fields that are invited to participate their professional point of view.
Pedagogical Information
The data collected in focus groups in the project CINAGE were extremely interesting. They have shown that stereotypes about old age are still alive. Nevertheless, the attitude towards old age and the position of older people had changed and active ageing has been shown as an individual situation developing throughout life.
European Dimension
The method enabled the partners and adult educators as well as older people themselves to identify the issue of social inclusion, freedom, participation and contribution of older people to society in Europe.
Applied in projects
European Cinema for Active Ageing
CINAGE – a Grundtvig multilateral project, supported by the EU Lifelong Learning Programme – was composed of interlinked activities resulting in the production of a learning package, for use by adult educators and aimed at empowering older people towards achieving a more active ageing.
